The bloody actioner, “300: Rise of an Empire,” slayed the competition to become the number one movie in the country. The final numbers are out today and they show, “300: Rise of an Empire,” won the domestic box office race with a debut of $45 million.
This is the sequel to the successful battle film, “300”(2006), about 300 brave Spartans who take on an invading army of 300,000 Persians. That film has grossed $456 million worldwide.”Rise of the Empire,” is about another brutal confrontation — the Greeks fighting the invading Persians.
In second place, the new Disney animation, “Mr. Peabody & Sherman,” opened with $32.2 million. The movie is about the wild adventures of a brilliant talking dog and his adopted son.
The airplane thriller, “Non-stop,” raked in $15.8 million for third, followed by “The Lego Movie,” with $10.9 million and rounding out the top five, the biblical drama, “Son of God,” with $10.3 million.
