Super successful filmmaker Tyler Perry ‘s latest film is on top of the Box Office, but that’s not slowing his pace. Today distributor Lionsgate announced it has acquired the rights to two more Perry movies, according to Variety.
One film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” is based on a Perry play and stars Oscar-nominated actress, Taraji P. Henson. The actress received a nomination for her supporting role and terrific performance as Queenie in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
“I Can Do Bad All By Myself” is scheduled to begin filming at Perry’s mini-studio in Atlanta on Monday, March 16 and set for release on September 11. Also, featured in the movie is Perry in drag as the popular character, “Madea.” The second Perry film to feature that character debuted at the top of the Box Office about a week and a half ago; and remains the number one film in the country. “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail” has raked in a huge $66 million in the U.S.
The other Perry film on the fast track is a sequel to his 2007 hit, “Why Did I Get Married.” It has received a release date of April 12, 2010. Since 2005, Lionsgate has distributed seven Perry films, which have earned $350 million so far.
Also, Perry an actor/director/producer/writer, has two successful TV series, “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns.”
