Vampire Hunter Anita Blake is about to take her extraordinary skills and adventures to the small screen. New York Times Best selling author Laurell K. Hamilton has made a deal for her sexy paranormal series, featuring the Anita Blake character, with Independent Film Channel. The series is already the basis for a hugely popular graphic novel from Marvel Comics.
Hamilton’s series began with the book “Guilty Pleasures” in 1993. The author created a wildly imaginative dark fantasy world filled with shapeshifters, werewolves, zombies, vampires, and other night creatures, which quickly caught on with book fans. There are reportedly six million copies of the series in print worldwide. Penguin is scheduled to publish book 17 in the series “Skin Trade” in early June.
The telefilm, “Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter,” is scheduled to begin shooting this summer. The press release from IFC says “… the film will center on the character of Anita Blake, a street-savvy, down-to-earth vampire hunter with a lousy dating life and a penchant for bringing dead people back to life.” The made for TV movie is set to air on IFC tv in the summer of 2010.
