The more than two month search for missing FBI agent Stephen Ivens reportedly has ended tragically in the Burbank area. Ivens’ family has held onto hope that he might still be alive even though he was last seen on May 10, 2012. The FBI and a number of local agencies, including Burbank Police, were involved in the intense search for 35-year-old Ivens who had been described as “… despondent and possibly suicidal.” Today BPD put out a press release saying what appeared to be the remains of the missing FBI agent were discovered yesterday in the foothills above Burbank.
Two hikers reportedly followed a “suspicious foul odor “in the 3600 block of Scott Road and made the grim discovery. The BPD says investigators responded to the scene “.. and noted consistencies with the physical description of missing FBI Agent Stephen Ivens.” Also a gun was found at the location, which is not far from Ivens’ home, according to the Daily News. It will be up to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to make a positive identification and determine the exact cause of death.
