There’s always some danger when you cross a busy street, however, Olive Avenue may be the deadliest street for pedestrians in Burbank. Last night, a man was hit and killed at Olive Avenue near Naomi Street. The fatal accident reportedly happened around 10:15 p.m. The victim was in one of the eastbound lanes when he was struck by a car, according to myburbank.
An investigation is still underway into another serious traffic accident on the same busy street last Thursday, July 25. Two women were seriously injured when they were hit by an SUV at around 7:14 p.m. The Burbank Leader reports the driver told police, “… she never saw the pedestrians when she was turning left onto Olive Avenue from Parish Place in her Lexus SUV…”
You might remember, 101-year-old Otto Jensen, an accomplished photographer, was killed in a fatal collision at Olive Avenue and Griffith Park Drive back in May 2012. Jensen was crossing Olive Avenue when he was struck and killed by a motorist around 8:15 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Times.

Even in broad daylight, stepping out into Olive Avenue is a bit unnerving. I walk in Burbank a lot and I’ve seen speeding and distracted motorists on Olive as well as other streets. Still, there’s something about the intensity and single minded purpose that characterizes drivers on Olive. This is definitely not the street for pedestrians to demand the right of way — even in a crosswalk. I would urge extreme care and caution when crossing Olive. Oh, it wouldn’t hurt to say a little prayer and ask for the protection of a higher power.
