While the debate rages, residents and businesses are continuing to show support for city council candidate, Chris Rizzotti, by publicly displaying his yard signs. The Rizzotti camp has been criticized for offering its political signs now rather than waiting until the holiday season nears an end. Recently, I spoke with some of the other candidates in 2015 races and none was willing to buck tradition and offer yard signs before the first of the year.

In a letter in the Burbank Leader, outspoken resident Molly Shore, condemned the political yard signs as wasted effort and an eyesore: “Just because my neighbor supports a certain council hopeful, it doesn’t mean that I will be swayed to vote for the same candidate. I find the display of these signs to be useless. They are nothing more than urban blight.”

The Rizzotti yard signs are proliferating in the Rancho, the home turf of city council member, Emily Gabel-Luddy. She’s running for re-election with the controversial Talaria project vote hanging over her head. Gabel-Luddy was part of the council majority that rubber-stamped that huge project in the Media District with a 4-to-1 vote. Only Mayor Dr. David Gordon voted against it.
In a letter to the Leader last Tuesday, Burbank resident Marilyn K. Deal called on fellow voters to “… send a message at the ballot box.” The way Deal sees it, “if we reelect this incumbent we are giving tacit approval for the council to continue favoring special interests.”

Holiday in the Park

Several candidates and/or potential candidates were out mingling and working the crowds at Holiday in the Park on Magnolia Boulevard last night. Among them: School board candidate, Steve Ferguson, and city council candidates Juan Guillen and Mike Moynahan.
Burbank School Board race
The number of potential candidates in the race for three seats on the Board of Education increased to seven this week. The newest contender, Burbank resident Greg Sousa.
The mail in ballots for the February 24, 2015 Burbank Primary Municipal Election are set to go out the week of January 26. The April 14, 2015 Burbank General Municipal Election will be mail in ballot as well.
