It’s going to be a lot harder to keep a Burbank lawn green through the coming hot days of summer due to some new water restrictions approved by the city council last Thursday. After a public hearing on the impact of the drought and a new 28 percent water-use reduction imposed by a recent executive order from Governor Brown, council members voted unanimously to move up to stage 111 of the city’s Sustainable Water Use Ordinance.
Stage 111 requires residents to reduce outdoor irrigation from the present Stage 11 level of three days to two days a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays, through October. The new rules allow outdoor watering only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m — this now includes hand watering. Outdoor evaporative cooling devices like misters are prohibited. Also when not in use spas, wading, and swimming pools must have covers to decrease water evaporation. The new rules take effect on Monday, June first. More details here.
