The City of Burbank float gave a winning performance at the 135th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The parade theme for 2024 was “Celebrating a World of Music.” Burbank’s “Caterpillar Melody” won the Mayor Award. That trophy honors the most outstanding float from a participating city in the self-built category. The Burbank Tournament of Roses Association is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. As in previous years, the float design was selected from a number of submissions in a contest open to the public.
Richard Burrow of Mission Viejo submitted the winning design. Burrow is no stranger to the competition. This is his fourth win! His previous wins were for the 2013 Fantasy Trophy-winning float “Deep Sea Adventure,” the second time in 2017′ “Home Tweet Home,” and last year for 2023’s Queen Award-winning float “Adventure Awaits.’
2025 theme announced
Meanwhile, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses is already preparing for next year’s events. Last week, the newly installed association president announced the theme for 2025 as “Best Day Ever!” In a news release, President Ed Morales gave a brief description.
“The 2025 theme celebrates life’s best moments – those unexpected times that bring a smile, warm our hearts and fill us with joy. From a once-in-a-lifetime experience to the simplest pleasures, each is indelibly etched into our memory,” explained Morales. “Together, we celebrate where we’ve been and what we look forward to. It’s about family, friends, and community and what we have to celebrate – and to be thankful for. On New Year’s Day and throughout the year, let’s celebrate the times that make up our Best Day Ever!”
The deadline for submitting an entry for the 2025 Burbank float is January 31, 2024. Get details at https://www.burbankrosefloat.com/forms/DESIGN2025.pdf.
