“I’m very excited,” that’s what Dr. Danielle Stranc told everyone at a Glendale polling place on Election Day, November 4, 2008. Dr. Stranc is from Chile. The 41-year-old anesthesiologist became a U.S. citizen last January. She voted for the first time in the Presidential General Election. Rick Scully snapped photos of Dr. Stranc’s personal milestone.
Last week, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan declared there were 3,368,057 ballots cast in the November election. “There were more ballots cast in total, more ballots cast by mail and more voters registered in Los Angeles County than in any prior election dating back to 1968,” according to Logan in a press release.
Probably very few voters dressed-up as, ah, patriotic as Dr. Stranc. Still, I run into folks daily who say they were excited to cast their ballots in last month’s election. I’ve participated in many elections over the years. Still I have to admit, I am thrilled I took part in that historic election, which voted in Barack Obama and a new era of change in America.
