Instead of meeting with the big studio representatives, the Screen Actors Guild will be dealing with its own legal drama today. Last night, SAG canceled negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers set for today and tomorrow.
The reason, SAG’s bitter in-fighting has now moved to the courts. Media sites such as Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily reported last night that SAG President Alan Rosenberg is leading a legal fight to get ousted SAG National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Doug Allen reinstated along with the SAG Negotiating Committee.
A moderate faction in SAG, unhappy with Allen’s supposed hard line contract negotiating, used a behind the scenes union provision to kick out Allen and the Negotiating Committee a week ago, on January 26. Now, we will have to wait and see what a Los Angeles Superior Court decides to do about all of this.
