It’s done deal. After months of turmoil and uncertainty, the Los Angeles Clippers have a new owner. Former Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, is now in charge. The NBA announced yesterday that Ballmer is officially the new owner. Ballmer ponied up a heart stopping $2 billion dollars for the NBA franchise last April. Despite the legal wrangling of embattled former owner, Donald Sterling, Los Angeles Superior Court judge, Michael Levanas, ruled Sterling’s estranged wife, Shelly, did have the right to sell the team. Tuesday morning, Judge Levanas’ ruling became final.
One of the top priorities for Ballmer reportedly is locking up a new deal with coach Doc Rivers. Even though, Rivers has two years left on a $21 million contract– an extension with the new owner would send a strong message that the team is back on stable management ground.
