Hollywood superstar, Shirley MacLaine, is the recipient of the AFI Life Achievement award for 2012, according to a PR Newswire release. Maclaine has won more than 40 awards including best actress for “Terms of Endearment” (1983). She has appeared in numerous films and is best known for her acting in “The Apartment” (1960), “Sweet Charity” (1961), “The Turning Point” (1977), and “Steel Magnolias” (1989). I remember her delightful portrayal of a hooker/nun in “Two Mules for Sister Sara” (1970). Maclaine remains active, she is set to appear in “The Boom Boom Room” (2012), and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” (2013.
MacLaine was presented the AFI Life Achievement Award at a lavish star-studded gala June 7, 2012 at Sony Pictures in Culver City. Among the stars on hand to honor MacLaine her brother Warren Beatty, Melanie Griffith, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Katherine Heigl, Sally Field, Morgan Freeman, Peter Fonda, Sidney Poitier, Jack Nicholson, Steven Spielberg, Carrie Fisher, and Jennifer Aniston. “TV Land Presents: AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Shirley MacLaine” will air two weeks from now on Sunday, June 24.
