“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” won the neck-and-neck battle against newcomer “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” for the top spot at the domestic Box Office this past weekend. In the final numbers, “Transformers 2” grossed a huge $42.3 million to hold onto the title of the number one movie in the nation for the second straight week.
“Transformers 2” is making truckloads of money here and abroad. The sci-fi action flick is expected to cross the $300 million mark domestically by mid-week. The sequel has already leaped that barrier internationally.
Although it landed in second place, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” is doing a heck of a lot of business in movie theaters as well. The third installment of this animated pre-historic series debuted with $41.6 million. Worldwide, this family adventure has raked in more than $200 million so far.
Another new film, “Public Enemies” blasted into third by earning $25.2 million. The adult drama about the adventures of infamous bank robber John Dillinger and his gang, stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. The romantic comedy, “The Proposal” came in fourth with $12.8 million, and rounding out the top five the comedy, “The Hangover” with $11.2 million.
