The classic romantic comedy film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961) is among the reported cinematic treasures selected for the National Film Registry. The Library of Congress today announced the 25 films picked for the registry in 2012. “Established by Congress in 1989, the National Film Registry spotlights the importance of preserving America’s unparalleled film heritage,” said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington in a news release. “These films are not selected as the ‘best’ American films of all time, but rather as works of enduring importance to American culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as a nation.”
Along with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” this year’s list includes “Born Yesterday” (1950),”Anatomy of a Murder” (1959), “Dirty Harry” (1971), “A League of Their Own” (1992), and “The Matrix” (1999).
