Burbank breaks 43 year-old heat record during heat wave. Yesterday, the thermometer kept rising in the Media City. When it hit 106 we thought that was going to be it. However, the temperature continue to climb until it hit a record 109, according to the National Weather Service. That breaks a record of 104 set on that day back in 1973. Records were broken in other Southland cities as well. Don’t turn off the A/C, the heat is not about to let up yet.
Today is supposed to be the hottest day of this heat wave. The predicted high in Burbank, more triple-digit temperatures. An excessive heat warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. this evening. Also, as a result of the record heat and high energy demand, state regulators have issued a flex alert for today from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
“Consumers are urged to conserve electricity especially during the late afternoon when air conditioners typically are at peak use. Consumers can help avoid power outages by turning off all unnecessary lights, using major appliances after 9 p.m. and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.
During times of high temperatures, demand on the power grid can be strained, as air conditioner use increases,” according to a news release.
By the way, today is the first day of summer. Sigh, apparently it’s going to be a long hot summer season.
