After being closed for more than a week due to water damage, the Central Library in Burbank reopened today. Burbank public information officer Keith Sterling says, “..first time this length of closure in recent memory.”
The library at 110 North Glenoaks Boulevard was shutdown on Saturday, April 9, after a water pipe ruptured in one of the book sections. The pipe was in the ceiling. The damage included carpets and books — one-to-two thousand were destroyed in the accident.
City officials had originally planned to open the library the Monday following the incident. That was changed to Monday, April 18, once it was determined the cleanup would take longer and would include putting down new floor covering.
