Summer is a good time to get into the compost groove, especially when the City of Burbank is offering free classes. Tossing things like veggie scraps, leaves, small twigs, and fresh grass into a compost bin provides a feast for microorganisms — which in turn create a rich soil amendment for your yard.
In the compost classes you get to learn how to cut down on the smelly waste in your trash can, mulch leave clippings, details on grasscycling and other techniques, which save water, energy, and help protect the environment.
Classes begin tomorrow, June 29, 6:30 p.m. at the Burbank Recycle Center, 500 South Flower Street, and run through September 22, 20 11. Bring the whole family. There is no charge for the classes. However, you do need to RSVP, so give them a call over at the Burbank Recycle Center (818) 238-3900. Also, If you’re a Burbank resident you get a free compost bin.
