A DUI checkpoint in Burbank resulted in three arrests as well as several citations and warnings. The Burbank PD Traffic Bureau set up the checkpoint at Olive Avenue and Lake Street last night. More than 800 vehicles reportedly passed through the checkpoint between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
The purpose was “to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence, to serve as a deterrent to driving while impaired, and to reduce the number of persons killed or seriously injured in alcohol-related traffic collisions,” according to Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick. Here are the results.
- 847 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
- 764 drivers were screened for signs of driving under the influence
- 9 drivers were detained for the administration of Standardized Field Sobriety
tests - 3 drivers were arrested for outstanding warrants
- 6 citations were issued to unlicensed drivers
- 2 citations were issued for driving with a suspended license
- 3 citations were issued for possession of marijuana
- 13 warnings were issued
Also, Officer Kendrick says “DUI checkpoints are not just about arrests, but also about education..” He added: “The Burbank Police Department remains committed to making Burbank a safer place to live and work.”
