Burbank Police arrested a suspect today in connection with a shooting incident in front of the Town Center Mall entrance at 201 East Magnolia Boulevard. Apparently the shooting was part of some kind of confrontation involving several males. Two victims — who were moviegoers — reportedly left a theater and walked out of the mall doors when the confrontation occurred around 1:25 a.m.
“A group of approximately 5 males approached the victims in front of the mall and attacked them for an unknown reason. It appears the suspect, captured by officers, fired a single gunshot which struck one of the victims,” according to a police news release. The suspects fled the scene.
Police arrived to find one victim with “a single gunshot wound in his lower torso,” and the “second victim had injuries to his head and face from being physically attacked.” Police officers rendered aid until the Burbank Fire Department/paramedics took over.
Both victims, who have not been identified, were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries reportedly are not “life threatening.” Other officers captured the suspected gunman after a foot pursuit near the Interstate 5 Freeway. He has been identified as Albert Vasquez, 24, of Los Angeles. Vasquez was booked on charges of attempted murder. Also, the release says officers recovered a handgun in the area,
The search is still on for the other suspects involved in the incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation or anyone with additional information regarding this situation is asked to contact the Burbank Police Department Investigations Bureau at (818) 238-3210.
