Another honor for Burbank top-notch teacher, Rebecca Mieliwocki. You might remember, that Mieliwocki won the National Teacher of the Year Award back in 2012. The Luther Burbank Middle School English teacher kicked off a year-long journey of celebration with a ceremony at the White House and recognition by President Obama, followed by a tour of 30 U.S. states and nine countries — where she reportedly represented American’s school teachers.
Now, Mieliwocki is receiving a local distinction — that of grand marshal of the 2014 Burbank on Parade. This year’s parade theme, “Burbank: City of the Future.”
“The choice of a local teacher for Grand Marshal is a perfect match because the children of this community are our future,” parade President ,Carey Briggs, explained in a news released. “We are fortunate to have an educator in town who has become known nationally and internationally for her outstanding ability to inspire students and fellow teachers as well.”

Since 1981, Burbank on Parade has been a community shout out to the Media City, its residents, and traditions. Always, there are the marching bands, equestrian units, local groups and organizations, special guests, dignitaries, and plenty of vintage vehicles.
This year they’ve added something new — a food court in the Joslyn Adult Center parking lot, at the corner of Griffith Park Drive and Clark Avenue. Gourmet food trucks will be serving their specialities from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the food sales will go to the parade committee, according to the release.
On Saturday, April 26, the 33rd annual Burbank on Parade will roll at 11 a.m. The parade travels along Olive Avenue from Keystone to Lomita streets.
