Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is being called the first blockbuster of the summer season, even though the calendar says it’s still April. The final weekend numbers are out today, they should the action adventure debuted with a spectacular $95, 023 million to grab the top spot at the domestic box office.
The film beat the previous record for an April opening of $86 million set back in 2011 by the Universal actioner “Fast Five.” Worldwide, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has scored $302, 123 million — and is expected to continue packing them in at theaters for several weeks.
Far behind in second place, the biblically based “Noah” with $17 million, followed by the action/adventure, “Divergent,” which brought in $12.9 million good enough for third, faith-based drama, “God’s Not Dead,” landed in fourth with $7.7 million and rounding out the top five, the family comedy, “Muppets Most Wanted” with $6.1 million.
