Legendary comedienne, Joan Rivers, died today surrounded by family and friends in a New York hospital. Rivers was rushed to the hospital last Thursday after complications developed during a medical procedure at an outpatient clinic. Rivers’ reportedly stop breathing. She had been on life support until yesterday when she was moved out of ICU and into a private room. Her death was announced this afternoon in a statement from her daughter Melissa.
“My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. The queen of the outrageous one-liners and caustic barbs had a clear understanding of her relationship to the audience. Rivers said: “I want them to know I don’t think I’m wonderful, or better than they are. Part of comedy is saying: “I am you and you are me, and we’re all feeling the same thing.”
Joan Rivers was 81.
