“A hellish scene” is how a KCBS/KNX 1070 news radio reporter described what he saw in the San Francisco suburb of San Bruno tonight. A major natural gas pipeline ruptured shortly after 6 p.m. causing an explosion that some victims say felt like an earthquake or a plane crash. A fireball shot into the air and swept through a neighborhood the hillside community not far from San Francisco International Airport.
Officials are reporting at least three people are dead and dozens injured — many with serious burns. The catastrophe destroyed 53 homes and damaged around 120 others. More photos and details on the San Francisco Chronicle website here.
