Coffee mug “Cowboy Rerun” by Ron Howard on sale at Amazon.com
Academy Award winning director, Ron Howard, is showing his artistic side in a new way. Howard has designed a collection of colorful mugs to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which are for sale on Amazon.com .
The art work for “Cowboy Rerun,” “Bar Scene, “Dragon Fly,” and “Highway USA” began as doodles Howard does while on the phone. On Amazon, he described the process: “I scribble three random lines on the back of a production memo card and then while concentrating on my conversation, a little graphic starts to take shape and I go with it. And some of them really make me smile. Over the course of a few calls I color them in.”
The actor/ producer/director has turned out hundreds of doodles, but donated this collection to a favorite charity. “I’ve decided that this edition should benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America because I believe the organization does vital work supplying young people from all corners of the US with the facilities, inspiration and tools that promote healthy, fulfilled and successful futures for a generation our country will one day depend on.”
The ceramic dishwasher safe 18-ounce mugs have received high praise from reviewers on Amazon. The price, $35 each. All profits go to the charity.
Howard is best known as the T.V. child actor who played Opie Taylor, on “The Andy Griffith Show” in the 1960s and, as a teenager, he portrayed Richie Cunningham on “Happy Days.” Later, Howard moved behind the camera as a producer and director of such films as “Cocoon,” (1985), “Apollo 13” (1995), and “A Beautiful Mind” (2001), which won him the Best Director Oscar.
