The Sports Authority teamed up with Dodger star, Yasiel Puig, for a special event yesterday. It was a shopping spree to benefit the Lou Costello Recreation Center in Boyle Heights. Earlier this month, Puig took photos with fans to collect donations for the event. The shopping spree fund was sweetened by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and the Wasserman Foundation. They matched the donations collected by Puig. On Saturday, around 80 kids from the recreation center were bused to the Sports Authority to take part in the shopping spree.
Puig gave the kids a hand in picking out personal gifts such as shirts and caps, as well as baseball and softball equipment for the center. The youth baseball coaches from the center came along to help with the selection of gloves and bats, too.
Some of the female softball players from the recreation center participated in the shopping spree as well.
Also, the kids received gift bags and gift cards from Sports Authority, which is a Dodger sponsor.
