The investigation continues today into that horrific big rig/multiple vehicle crash yesterday in nearby La Canada Flintridge. The out-of-control double decker trailer blew through the busy intersection at Angeles Crest Highway and Foothill Boulevard. The car carrier reportedly crashed into several vehicles before plowing into a bookstore and a nail salon.
A Palmdale man and his daughter died at the scene. At least 12 other victims were taken to the hospital. The truck driver suffered only minor injuries. The Los Angeles Times reports the truck driver, 43-year-old Marcos Costa, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
City officials and residents have complained about runaway trucks on that steep stretch of Angeles Crest Highway. Last September, another runaway truck crashed into the parking lot of a restaurant near that same intersection. Only one person was hurt. This time around, the human toll was higher and hopefully that will get immediate corrective action from Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) officials.
