The El Segundo Little League champs got the superstar treatment when they arrived home Monday. On Sunday, the El Segundo kids won the Little League World Series title in a thriller. For most of the game, El Segundo had a comfortable lead over a tough Curacao team. Then it all changed.
In the top of the fifth inning, Curacao shook up the California kids with a grand slam with the bases loaded. That tied the game with 5 runs each. However, the “Gundo Boys” kept their cool and played on. Then in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, slugger Louis Lappe stepped up to the plate and smacked a walk-off home run over left field. The game was over.
El Segundo became the eight California team to win the title. More on the victory, players and what it means to El Segundo here and here.
