Got a question you want to ask one of the candidates running for office in the upcoming Burbank elections? The League of Women Voters of Glendale/Burbank is looking for questions from Burbankers to use for their candidates forums next Tuesday, January 20. League of Women Voters of Glendale/Burbank President, Thomas Carson, says the forums “… will provide the residents of Burbank the opportunity to see the candidates and hear the candidates’ opinions on important community issues.”
There will be two forums held in the council chambers at Burbank City Hall. The city council forum will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by the School Board Forum at about 8:15 p.m. If you want to see the forums live — you need to plan to be there. The events will be taped and available on Burbank’s YouTube channel and they will be broadcast various times on the Burbank Channel until the primary election on February 24, 2015.
Questions for the candidates may be submitted in advance (until 6:00 p.m. on January 19) by email to CityCouncilForum@lwvglendaleburbank.org or SchoolBoardForum@lwvglendaleburbank.org or by phone (818) 925-4598.
Some of the candidates for Burbank School Board sent out news releases yesterday. School Board President, Roberta Reynolds, and Steve Ferguson, sent out a joint release announcing they have received the endorsements from the California School Employees Association and the Burbank Teachers Association.
“New state laws require us to work with our bargaining groups, parents and community members like never before to set district funding priorities for the future. I’m looking forward to creating greater cooperation moving into the future,” Reynolds said in the release.
Ferguson added: “Our district’s employees are working every day to raise the level of student achievement in our district. It’s clear that our employees have found that Dr. Reynolds and I are the most capable of building consensus and moving our district into the future. I’m humbled by their support.”
Reynolds and Ferguson, claim they are the only two candidates to receive endorsements from both groups so far.
Also, school board candidate Jesse “Tangk“Tangkhpanya has picked up the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. “I’ve always been a lifelong activist and ally for the voiceless. Receiving this establishment support lends a strong hand of credibility to my campaign and I’m very excited with the momentum we are seeing at the party level,” Tangk said in a news release.
