Incumbent Bob Frutos and challenger, Sharon Springer, are holding down the top two spots in the early returns for two seats on the Burbank City Council. It was a busy evening at Burbank City Hall last night for election workers. The only race on the ballot, a run-off for the city council seats. The interest in the run-off has been strong. The final tally for the February 28, 2017 primary, 10, 902 ballots. Last night’s total for the general election 11,142 and there are still more ballots to be counted. Mail-in ballots, with an election day postmark, that arrive at the city clerk’s office by noon, Friday, April 14, will be in the final count for the general election. So really it’s too early for anyone to break into a victory dance, pop a champagne cork or toss some confetti.
At the moment, Frutos has a sizable lead over the other contenders, including his fellow council member Dr. David Gordon. Here are the numbers.
Bob Frutos 6, 096 54.88%
Sharon Springer 5, 431 48.89%
Dr. David Gordon 5, 104 45.95%
Juan Guillen 3, 657 32.92%
Again, these numbers are preliminary. The city clerk’s office will issue the final ballot count on Friday and declare the winners.
