Gasoline prices are on a roll again — upward! As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, prices at the pumps continue to creep up. Today the national average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.75, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. As usual, prices are higher in California. Today the state and the Los Angeles/Long Beach (including Burbank) area average for a gallon of that grade of gas is $4.13. A month ago, the price was $3.80 a gallon for self-serve regular in the Los Angeles/Long Beach region.
Gasoline prices have been rising for a while now and that has become an irritation for consumers. Who do they blame for jacking up those prices? Oil companies! In a recent Gallup poll when asked for the companies, which produced the most negative reaction, oil and gas companies were at the top of the list. The survey suggested the reason: “The cause of the oil and gas industry’s bad image is most likely the frequent and sometimes inexplicably large spikes in the price of gas.” More on that poll here.
