The nominations were announced early this morning for the 2015 Academy of Awards. In the prestigious Best Picture category, several small quirky films and no blockbusters.

  • Boyhood
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel
  • The Imitation Game

  • The Theory of Everything
  • Whiplash

“Birdman,” actor Michael Keaton’s comeback, and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” tied at nine for the most nominations. The full lists of nominees here.  There were snubs and surprises: The Hollywood Reporter,  Los Angeles Times. The 87th Academy Awards ceremony will be Sunday, February 22, 2015 .

Also, the Directors Guild of America has announced the nominees for its DGA awards. Here’s the list for feature films and other media. The winners will be announced at the 67th Annual DGA Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 7, 2015

Email falling out of favor with some  companies and workers after Sony hack Bloomberg

The man who saved several hostages by hiding them in a giant freezer during that terrorist attack on a market in France last Friday is going to be honored. Lassana Bathily, a 24 year-old Malian man and Muslim, will be given French citizenship  Mashable
