The day after President Barack Obama took the oath of office for a second term in a public inauguration ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in D.C. in front of thousands on the National Mall and millions watching on TV, there is a controversy surrounding one of the celebrity singers. Beyoncé got raves for her rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner,” but now the Internet is abuzz with chatter about how she may have faked it.
Several media outlets, including ABC News and The New York Times, are reporting the pop star lip-synced the national anthem. The U.S. Marine Band spokesperson reportedly said, the band did not play during Beyonce’s performance, instead, she used a pre-recording. Some think the reason for that decision might have been the cold, 40 degrees, or maybe just nerves. Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor performed at the ceremony as well and both did so live. Hmm. Not cool, Beyoncé. Folks are going to wonder if she can really sing the “Star Spangled Banner” with heart and soul, without being in a studio.
