A big weekend for Halloween fans to go shopping for decorations, hunt down the right costume for fright night, and of course, buy candy for those little ghosts, goblins, and other night creatures who may come a trick or treating. No longer just a kid’s holiday — Halloween is now a favorite of adults as well and it’s big business, according to the National Retail Federation.
The NRF says seven out of ten Americans plans to celebrate Halloween this year. Despite the sluggish economy, the average Halloween shopper will spend $79.82 on decorations, costumes and candy, up from $72.31 last year, according to the NRF’s consumer spending survey. The total Halloween spending this year is expected to reach $8 billion! So go ahead: get your spook on and give the economy a boost.
