It is probably everybody’s wish to live a healthy long life without getting sick.
So there are a variety of stories and secrets of health and longevity across the ages and in all the countries in the world.
One of them is a story about Okinawa, Japan, where most of its residents live long.
Especially, people in the village of Okimi within Okinawa are known to have the longest lives. At the entrance of the village, there is a stone monument on which the following words are inscribed:
If you are 80 years old, you are just a child. If you are called to come to the next world at the age of 90, ask to wait until you are 100 years old. We’ll become children as we get vigorous. If you want to live long, come to our village to learn the secret of longevity.”
Indeed, what do you think their secret of longevity is?
According to researchers, though many factors affect longevity, one of the most important factors is eating habits. People there eat beans, fish, vegetables, fruits, and pork often. In other words, they take in a variety of nutrients on a regular basis.
In a sense, this may not be a special secret. Their special secret is that they do not eat much. What does eating light mean to them? It is said to eat “the amount which doesn’t make you feel full.” In a word, do not fill your stomach.
The big secret of longevity is no other than “to eat small” and “not to fill.”
That secret may not be just for eating. The effort not to fill just for ourselves or not to be greedy and self-centered in the sphere of feelings and emotions in terms of what we may get in our relations to others, such as care, love and interest, might be a secret to longevity, too. What do you think?
It is almost December. It is a season of sharing. Even though we may not have fulfilled our wishes to the full extent this year, let’s think about whether we have anything to share.
For this purpose, we are collecting clothes which you don’t wear any more. During December, we will collect your clothes, clean and send them to where they are needed.
I hope that you will participate in our efforts: Value Village Cleaners 912 West Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale, 91202 (818) 243-1811 .
I wish that you’ll feel happy and healthy by not filling up every single day.
