While billionaire/reality TV star, Donald Trump, has won support from female voters in most of the GOP primaries and caucuses so far, apparently there are a lot of women out there not feeling the love for the irreverent presidential candidate. This month in a Reuters/Ipsos Poll, half of the women surveyed said they had a “very unfavorable” opinion of Trump — that is up from 40 percent in a similar poll taken last October. This survey was conducted from March 1-15 and involved 5,400 respondents.
The poll may be an indicator of the growing anti-Trump sentiment. The real estate tycoon boasts about having “millions of supporters” who might cause “riots” if he remains the front-runner and doesn’t get the Republican nomination. It’s that kind of caustic and threatening talk that is a turn-off for many, especially women. During the last 20 years, women have turned out to vote in elections in higher numbers than men, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
If Trump ends up snagging the Republican presidential nomination, there’s a good chance he will face-off against the Democratic front-runner/ former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who has been very vocal about her disdain for the billionaire’s campaign rhetoric. Bottom line, women voters could decide who wins the White House in November.
