“Lone Survivor” fought its way to the top of the box office over the weekend. The military action/drama debuted with $37.8 million becoming the number one film in the U.S. That’s the second largest January opening ever.
“Lone Survivor” is based on the real-life story of four Navy Seals on a covert mission in Afghanistan who must make some tough decisions when it goes wrong and they’re ambushed by the Taliban. Mark Wahlberg leads the cast.
The film has sparked some award buzz and that’s a good thing. However, it’s getting some not-so good attention from an article on the LA Weekly website about two of the “Lone Survivor” producers,Remington Chase and Stefan Martirosian. The article is about the colorful past lives of Chase and Martirosian and is filled with international intrigue involving alleged crimes and drugs. The producers were interviewed for the piece. Very interesting reading.
As for the box office, the animation”Frozen” came in second with $14.7 million, in third, newcomer, “The Legend of Hercules,” earned $8.86 million , followed closely by “The Wolf of Wall Street,” in fourth with $8.83 million and rounding out the top five, “American Hustle” $8.3 million.
