A lot of sadness in Laker land tonight, as folks come to terms with the passing, earlier today, of team owner, Dr. Jerry Buss. At the age of 80 and reportedly after a long battle with cancer, Buss died this morning at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He was the majority owner of the Lakers and is given credit for being the architect of the basketball franchise’s showtime success. He had a Ph.D in physical chemistry and keen business sense.
What does this mean for the Lakers? No change, according to a statement , from the Buss siblings, posted on the team’s website:”It was our father’s often stated desire and expectation that the Lakers remain in the Buss family. The Lakers have been our lives as well and we will honor his wish and do everything in our power to continue his unparalleled legacy.” More on Buss, his legacy, and the Lakers here on the Sports Business News site.
