Tom Huber thinks his Burbank store is the luckiest in town and with good reason. Seven years ago, a winning lottery ticket for $1.2 million was purchased at Otto’s Import Store & Delicatessen, 2320 West Clark Avenue. Also, players have bought lottery tickets, including scratchers, at this little European import shop, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
People buy a lot of tickets when the jackpot gets huge, but Huber says his shop is a destination for players who focus on the scratcher tickets as well. Some buy one or two or even a whole pack of $20 scratchers — which will set you back $600!
It’s not just the lucky karma that surrounds the shop, but also the friendly and knowledgable staff that attracts lottery players. Huber says they’re always willing to help explain the lottery games and even help regulars keep track of their special numbers.
When I dropped by the shop and spoke with Huber today, he was very excited about the record jackpot. He feels playing the lottery is “… a good outlet for people.” Also he has a motto: “You win it — we’ll help you spend it.”
Oh, in case you are wondering, I did buy a Mega Millions quick pick before leaving the store.
