I joined friends for lunch on the patio of the Clubhouse Grill at the DeBell Golf Club in Burbank yesterday, and it was a big disappointment. The views of the hillsides and golf greens were terrific, but the food and the service were totally sub par. First, our table was dirty and we had to ask the waitress to clean it off. She gave it a quick wipe — leaving behind food stuck to the table surface. After we ordered, it took 20 minutes or so for our food to arrive. The potato salad was okay, but the turkey in my sandwich was tough and dry. The waitress appeared inexperience or at least inattentive. While clearing the table, she managed to spill liquid from one of the dirty plates into my lap. That was a real thrill.
I’ve been to the Clubhouse Grill for lunch before and never felt the food was anything special. However, after all the talk about improving the golf club facility and grounds — I expected better. You might remember that last year the Burbank City Council voted to bail out the financially strapped golf course. An analysis was done by National Golf Foundation Consulting and an oversight committee was set up for the facility, which is owned by the city. If changes or improvements have been made — they apparently did not include the service or food quality at the Clubhouse Grill. And that’s a shame.
