Lupita Nyong’o is red-hot in Hollywood right now. Nyong’o stunned on the red carpet during awards season. In March, she scooped up the Oscar for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Patsey in “12 Years a Slave.” Sometimes the heat from an Oscar win cools quickly, but not for Nyong’o.
Earlier this month, Nyong’o grabbed headlines for her new contract with the cosmetic giant, Lancôme. Nyong’o joins other Academy Award winning actresses like Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet, who have become ambassadors for the brand. Lupita is the first Black ambassador for the French beauty firm. She will start appearing in ads this September as the face of Lancôme.
Yesterday, it came out that Nyong’o has signed with top ranked entertainment agency, CAA, for representation. Today, another huge development for the Mexican-born, Kenyan star. People Magazine announced Nyongo is its “Most Beautiful” woman of 2014 . Nyongo told the magazine she grew up bombarded by light-skin, long-hair images of female beauty. Nyong’o came to doubt the attractiveness of her dark skin. However, it was her mother who kept saying she was beautiful and finally, she came around to believing it.
About being named People’s Most beautiful, the Yale school of drama graduate called it a “major, major compliment.” The 31 year-old actress went on to say she hopes to inspire others: “I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen.”
