The colorful creatures of Disney’s “Monster University” rule the domestic box office for the second straight week. The final box offices numbers released today show “MU” pulled in $45.6 million over the weekend to hold onto first place. The two week total for the film, $170.4 million.
The second place winner stole much of the spotlight from the monsters. The female cop buddy pic, “The Heat” over performed and grabbed $39 million in its debut. The Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy flick was made on a modest budget of $43 million. Compare that with “White House Down,” which managed only $24.8 million dollars with a budget estimated at $150 million.
