Another age-defying achievement by King James. During a home game against the Denver Nuggets last night, LeBron reached and surpassed the 40,000 career points milestone. In front of a sellout crowd during the second quarter at Crypto.com Arena, LeBron drove to the hoop and hit a left-handed layup. The game continued but everyone knew they had just witnessed history in the making.
LeBron is already the league’s all-time scoring champ. Last year, he passed the former record holder Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s career total of 38,387. That record stood for almost 40 years. Before the night was over 39-year old LeBron would score 26 points pushing his career total to 40,017 points. However, LeBron’s efforts were not enough to win the game. The Lakers lost 124-114.
To remember the night, James received the game ball. Later during media interviews, LeBron admitted his accomplishment took luck and “You have to take care of your body, you have to be present on the floor and then you have to be productive as well.” When asked if another player is on the trajectory to break his new record? LeBron wouldn’t speculate but said he believes “records always meant to be broken.”
