Talking about putting the pedal to the metal, the new “Fast & Furious” film burned serious rubber to the top of the Box Office this weekend. “Fast & Furious (New Model … Original Parts)” debuted with a spectacular $72.5 million — the biggest April movie opening ever.
Eight years after the original “Fast & Furious” launched a franchise and several careers, this reunion retread is the fourth installment in the action series to hit movie theaters. The sequel stars original cast members Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriquez, and Jordana Brewster.
In second place last weekend’s top domestic movie, “Monsters vs. Aliens” with a hefty $33.5 million. In two weeks, this computer-animated 3-D film has raked in around $105 million. The horror flick “The Haunting In Connecticut” earned $9.5 million for third, followed by the science fiction thriller “Knowing” in fourth with $8.1 million. The bromance, “I Love You, Man” rounded out the top five with about $7.8 million.
