New stiffer water restrictions take effect in Burbank today. So if you were planning on doing ANY outside watering — don’t! It’s a violation of Stage III of the City’s Sustainable Water Use Ordinance, which the city council implemented last month. Watch out. City officials will be on the lookout for water wasters.
The new restrictions are the result of the severe four-year California drought and that recent executive order from Governor Jerry Brown requiring Burbank to reduce water usage by 28 percent. Already, Burbank has decreased its usage by 7 percent, but needs to drop 21 percent more or one billion gallons by next February. If the city does not reach that goal, it reportedly could be fined up to $10,000 a day.
Stage 111 reduces outdoor irrigation from three days to two days a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays, through October. Outdoor watering, including hand watering, is only allowed before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Outdoor evaporative cooling devices like misters are prohibited. Also when not in use spas, wading, and swimming pools must have covers to decrease water evaporation. More details here.
