The USS Iowa, a grand old battleship which served our country for more than 50 years, is on the final leg of a journey to its retirement location. The Navy decommissioned the battleship for the last time in October of 1990. The battlewagon was called into action a number of times, including World War II and the Korean War. The USS Iowa is being transformed into an interactive floating museum.
Today, the battleship was towed into Los Angeles Harbor to its temporary stay at Berth 51. Next month, the USS Iowa will be moved to its permanent home at Berth 87. A grand opening is being planned for July, 7, 2012.
