Pink has been added to the roster of performers for the 86th Academy Awards ceremony set for a week from this Sunday. This Oscars broadcast is apparently putting a heavy emphasis on entertainment with Bette Midler, U2, and Pharrell Williams already signed on to appear.
“We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time,” said show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in a statement. “She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”
Pink has won three Grammy Awards. Her single “Just Give Me A Reason” from her 2012 album, “The Truth About Love,” was a monster hit. The song features Nate Ruess of the rock band Fun. The ballad was her 8 to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart, setting an industry record. Also, she was Billboard Woman of the Year in 2013. Pink has sold over 40 million albums and 65 million singles.
The Oscars will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 2, from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. It will be seen in more than 225 countries around the globe.
Meanwhile, Hollywood is getting ready for the Oscars. This Sunday, February 23, street closures in and around the theatre will begin.
