Political campaigns for the Burbank General Municipal Election shift into high gear this week. Some of the candidates in the run-off for either city council or school board are already back going door-to-door in various neighborhoods hoping to pick up some extra votes. I ran into city council candidate, Juan Guillen, at The White Chapel on Avon Street where the Burbank Coordinating Council meeting/luncheon was held today.
Guillen finished in the top four in last Tuesday’s primary; therefore, he moves on to the general election. He admits it was “a tough campaign.” Guillen expects the battle for votes to get even harder as the clock ticks down to Election Day on April 14. Guillen says he has”another five to six weeks to reach out to more residents and show them what I’m all about.” He’s hoping “voters who didn’t vote” for me will see I’m their “best alternative.”
Guillen is up against former Burbank Leader columnist Will Rogers, realtor/Planning Board vice-chair, Chris Rizzotti, and city council incumbent Emily Gabel-Luddy.

David Nos, who missed the cut-off for the city council run-off by less than 200 votes, went on Facebook last Saturday to convey his appreciation to his supporters: “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This was a hard-fought campaign with many twists, turns and unexpected outcomes, but none it would have been possible without the support and faith that many of you put in me.” Read Nos’ complete Facebook post here.

Elise Stearns-Niesen expressed her gratitude in a letter published by the Burbank Leader last Friday: ” I’d like to thank all those that supported me throughout my Burbank City Council primary election campaign. I couldn’t have done it without your help and encouragement. I’d especially like to thank the many Burbank residents that thought highly enough to vote for me and believed in my vision for a better Burbank.” Stearns-Niesen’s letter is here.

A few days ago, Sharon Springer posted a “thank you” to her supporters on Facebook: “Thank you very much for all your support! I will continue to advocate for you on the Sustainable Burbank Commission and my other activities in the city.”

Dr. Armond Aghakhanian is in a run-off with Greg Sousa for the remaining open seat on the Burbank School Board. Over the weekend, Aghakhanian went on his Facebook page to thank friends and supporters and to say he has “… … already started knocking on doors and talking to voters. ” Also, the educator gave a shout out to his fellow candidates: “I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Roberta Grande Reynolds and Steve Ferguson for winning outright in the primary election.
