Downtown Burbank’s first ice skating rink is set to open with a ribbon cutting ceremony, entertainment, and, of course, ice skating tomorrow. Despite storm clouds rolling into the Southland, I’m told, the festivities will go on “as planned.” Downtown Burbank merchants are behind this special holiday event, which they hope will give a boost to the local economy by attracting visitors and the community to the area.
The city council approved the project, back in September. The temporary rink, at no cost to the city, is being constructed over 51 parking spaces in the lot behind Burbank City Hall, at the corner of Third Street and Orange Grove Avenue.
The ice skating rink reportedly will be approximately 50 feet wide by 82 feet long (4,100 sq. ft.). During a 90 minute session, the rink can handle up to 165 skaters. Management firm Ice America will provide maintenance, ice skates and skate-aid rentals.
The rink will be open to the public from November 22 through January 5, 2014. Details on the cost of admission, skating rentals, and rink times here.
