“Darkness” — A spec script and the first sale for a couple of writers, is on the fast track “into production for 2014″… according to DoneDealPro (membership required). The spec by Francis Jay and C.B. Liffer, has a great hook. It’s a horror story about a woman with night blindness trapped in a small dark space with a corpse and four others, one of whom may be a killer. The woman must use only her touch and hearing to decide who and what to believe. The production team: Flickbag, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Turtle Bear Productions.
Flickbag’s Param Gill will produce. The screenwriters, Jay and Liffer, are attached to the project as associate producers.
“Selling Time” — Screenwriter Dan McDermott is getting a lot of play off this script. McDermott first sold it as a spec to Fox 2000 back in 2001, according to Deadline. At the time, McDermott was president of DreamWorks Television. It’s about a man who sells several years of his life for a chance at stopping a tragedy on the worst day of his life.
For the past 10 years or so, the script has been in development hell with several scriptwriters taking turns working on it. Now, McDermott is getting another shot at his own script. Also, he’s attached to produce. The supernatural thriller is at 20th Century Fox where D.J. Caruso has signed on to direct and Will Smith is reportedly interested in stepping into the lead role.
