A shout-out to twin authors honored for a book about Burbank. , Erin K. Schonauer and Jamie C. Schonauer, identical twins, are a successful writing team. Back in April of 2014, their book, “Early Burbank,” was published. Subsequently, the Schonauers held a book signing here in Burbank, at the Buena Vista Library. The event was covered by Media City Groove.
“Early Burbank”, as you might have guessed, is about the early beginnings of the Media City. Today, the twins are being feted at a reception where they will pick up the second biennial “San Fernando Valley Award for Nonfiction.”
The affair is organized by the Delmar T. Oviatt Library at California State University, Northridge. Oviatt Library Dean Mark Stove said in a press release: “With their book, Erin and Jaime Schonauer have created a vivid journey into Burbank’s intriguing past through striking, unique photographs and graceful prose.”
“Early Burbank” covers the late 1800s to the 1970s. The book is special to the authors for a number of reasons: “Our inspiration for Early Burbank came from our strong interest in the media. We were attracted to Burbank’s media roots. At the time, we were living in Burbank and really loved it there. We were compelled to explore the history of this vibrant and creative city. For us, personally, writing and researching this book was a very fulfilling experience. We loved reaching out to the community, interviewing long-time residents, and gathering historical photographs and stories. This book is special to us as we lived in Burbank for nearly 10 years, so having the opportunity to document part of Burbank’s rich history was a great honor for us,” explained Erin Schonauer in the release.
Today’s reception will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., inside the Orange Grove Bistro, on the CSUN campus. The Schonauers will be on hand to discuss “Early Burbank,”read excerpts, and sign copies of their book, which will be available for purchase on site. The event is free, but reservations are requested. You can do so online or call 818 677-2638 to RSVP and for more details such as parking for the event.
